Seebeck Effect with PELTIER THERMO-ELECTRIC COOLING MODULE

Post by lasundara »

Can we obtain the Seebeck effect from a PELTIER THERMO-ELECTRIC COOLING MODULE such as the one specified in the thermo electric experiments suggested on Science Buddies? The module suggested in https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... php?t=8513 is the Velleman PELTIER1 3A Peltier Thermo Electric Module. Can we supply heat to one end of this module (hopefully it is not encased in ceramic) and can we cool the other end to obtain electricity across the wires? Thank you for your help.

lasundara - Yes, you will get the reverse effect by applying heat and cold to the respective conducting plates. I noticed this device specifications is rated at 3 amperes current and will produce a 149 degree F differential at rated specs (15.4 volts, 3.0 amps). I don't know what the reverse efficiency might be, that would be interesting information if you do this experiment and report back to us. I expect you will get a fairly high voltage, but a lower current output. Good luck.
