Variables

Post by Rocky4626 »

I'm doing an experiment for my science fair. my questions is does fruit ripen faster in the refrigerator, a dark closet or on the counter? I have chosen a banana as the fruit but I can't figure out what my vaiables are. I have the banana as the dependent and the locations as the independent but I don't have a controlled variable. Can you give me any advice. Thanks

You are correct in saying the location is the independent variable (actually it is the amount of light, the humidity and the temperature at each location). The ripening time of the banana is then the dependent variable. You will probably need to better define when the fruit is considered ripe. Also the fruit needs to come from the same plant or bunch as well so it it does not add another variable. Good luck with your experiment.
