Testing insulation of materials. URGENT

Post by jess_kel »

hello
I have decided to do my project on the insulation of different materials. I am going to look at it from a different angle and use recycled materials so that it can be implemented in poor disadvantaged communities.. but as i was reading your page on this topic "Which is the better insulation material?" the experiment did not explain how to take the temperature of the wood? Is there a specific thermometer to use or must I take the temperature of the air just next to the wood? Also, would there be a large enough temperature difference to get reliable results? And would it possibly be better to measure the temperature of corrugated iron instead of wood to show how it could be used in townships?
PLEASE HELP
thank you

jess_kel - There are many variables to consider when evaluating insulation, and in this case you are referring to thermal insulation. Do some research on your simple question of taking a temperature measurement of your test material. My suggestion is that you use a low-cost infra-red thermometer available on-line or at local builders stores. They respond quickly and don't absorb heat from a low thermal mass material in the process. Look at some of the potential references below. Good luck.
