Project Question: Does weight effect the speed on a skateboard? I am not looking at body weight but different weights on skateboard. I have never done anything like this before.

Weights and Speed

Post by esis06 »

Dear Science Buddies, I am grandparent of a 5th grader who is doing a science fair project for the 1st time and is struggling with really beginning. He has e-mailed twice but has not received any response. Maybe his question has been unclear. He would like to show that putting more weights on a skateboard with a slight incline will cause the skateboard to go faster. Can you help us on where to go to start to find information. He is not talking about body weight (not a person) but rather different weights, such as 2lbs, 4lbs, 6lbs, etc. He is really into skateboarding and this is why he chose this subject. How about other aspects that we could look at regarding this subject? Thank you so much for your help.

Hi esis06,

We are happy to help. I responded to one of your grandchild's other posts a few minutes ago. Experts sign in once a day, so most questions are answered within 24 hours, but not immediately. Take a look at the reply I made to the other post, and post back (on that topic) with additional questions--it sounds like a really interesting project!
All the best,
Terik
