- Project Question: For my science project I am using used coffee grounds to extract oils and refine it into biodiesel. I have already done that, and now I am looking for a place to test the biodiesel content for my sample. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to where I am able to get it analyzed? I am also willing to call colleges, such as UCLA or USC, to see if they are able to help. If I do, which department should I go to? Thank you in advance for your help.

Re: Biodiesel testing
Hi there,
I would probably look up local colleges' departments of bioengineering, environmental engineering, or chemical engineering to see if there are any people doing research that may be able to help you.
For example, here are a few at UCLA:
http://www.environment.ucla.edu/reportc ... e7320.html
http://www.chemeng.ucla.edu/people/faculty/james-c-liao
http://www.environment.ucla.edu/
Even if these labs may not be able to help you, they may know of other labs that are better suited to perform the methods that you need to measure the biodiesel contents of your samples. I would introduce yourself, describe your project and what you have done, and then mention what you would like measured from your samples. Since the people you chat with are going to be experts in their field, they may be able to give you some helpful suggestions as to what you can measure and how you can measure.
Let us know if you have anymore questions.
