Project Question: I am planning on doing the Gauss Rifle and they ask for 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch neodymium magnets, I have access to 12.5mm by 12.5 mm neodymium magnets (N42), and instead of 1/2'' nickel plated balls I have 1/2'' chrome steel ball bearings would these work?

Gauss Rifle

Hi, I am planning on making the Gauss Rifle for a science fair project due on March 16th. I was just wondering however if chrome ball bearings would work for this rather than nickel plated steel balls? Thanks so much for the information!!

Chrome plating shouldn't be different than nickel plating. The balls themselves should still be steel though.

Good luck and be careful, please.
