Hello! I need information for my chemistry research paper. Can manganese sulfate be used as an ice melt? If so, what are the hazards, cost, amount needed and what type of reaction would occur? I need this info asap please! :D

Hello ekb123,

It may be possible to use manganese sulfate to melt ice and snow. But ice melting did not appear when I searched for uses of manganese sulfate.

Dissolving a salt in water will lower the freezing point, as explained at this site:

Manganese sulfate will also lower the freezing point of water. But other compounds (NaCl, CaCl2, etc) may be better options in terms of cost or effectiveness.
