Why is scientific research so important to helping find a cure for cancer?

Your question is a very important one, as Scientific Research is the foundation for our understanding of how the world works! In order to develop cures for cancer (or any number of diseases) we must understand how our cells work normally, and how diseases interfere with this. For example, if a cell isn't supposed to divide, but a cancerous cell all of a sudden does, we need to understand what cellular function has been disrupted that led to this change.
