This is a topic I have little knowledge of myself, but I googled it and came up with this link http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2762251/ I read through the article and the section entitled "Bone Stimulators: How Do They Work?" I think should help guide you in the right direction to understand the concept better.
