Darcy's Law
Hi, I'm doing a project on Darcy's law and I was wondering which formula would be the best to use/which is correct? There are many different equations, so I'm not sure which one I should use. I am looking for a formula that I can easily use to calculate the flow rate. Also, for an intermediate experiment testing Darcy's law, how much background information/research would be ideal in order to properly execute the experiment? Are there certain things I should definitely research?

Darcy’s Law states that the flow rate of a fluid in a porous medium is proportional to the pressure differential across the medium. Simple put, the flow rate is equal to the pressure differential multiplied by a proportionality factor. Some equations for Darcy’s Law include terms for properties of the fluid (viscosity, density) and for the porous medium (permeability, particle size). If you want to calculate the flow rate in a porous medium, you need the pressure differential and some specific information about the fluid and the porous medium.
The simplest demonstration of Darcy’s Law might be an experiment in which the pressure differential for a flowing fluid is varied, and the fluid flow rate is measured. The expected result would be a linear trend between the pressure differential and flow rate. Given this kind of experiment my suggestion is to research how to measure pressure and flow for liquids (you might use water as your fluid). Also, you might include some research on how porous media affect flow and pressure and how to construct a packed bed for your fluid flow.
