What is the effect of potassium sulphide being heated?

Hello everyone!

I understand that acidified potassium manganate (VII) solution turns from purple to colourless when iron sulphide is heated.

Can I also assume that the same results is achieved when potassium sulphide is heated? :roll: I believe potassium oxide and sulphur dioxide will be produced in this test.

I am sorry to say that I am not really sure about the answer. However, may be we can explore why you are thinking this reaction may occur and see if we can investigate further?

If you look closely at manganate portion of K2MnO4, I believe that's where the reaction will take place causing color to change. (Speaking of which, please confirm the compound. Potassium manganate is green in color?)

Hopefully, these are some starting point for your experiment. As usual, please be extra careful when dealing with chemicals and make sure that you have the correct lab setup, etc...
