Paper Chromatography

Will changing the temperature of the solvent (water) affect the distance traveled by marker dye?
Can paper chromatography be used to determine solubility?
Theoretically, Will increasing the temperature of water make the marker dye dissolve faster?
Is this a good chromatography question for science fair. Any help is appreciated.

This seems like a perfectly acceptable science fair question to me. I believe that changing the temperature will be affect the distance the dye travels (although there may not be stable results), but I may be wrong, so hopefully another moderator or student expert can either help confirm or reject my answer. I agree with willrosenthal, those are excellent chromatography questions! Temperature and solubility are very important things that chromatographers consider and change when they are trying to separate components of a mixture.

What words or terms are you using for your background research? Do you plan to research or make observations about solubility separately, or draw those conclusions from the chromatography results?

Have you formed a hypothesis? Are you doing a Science Buddies project or designing your own?
