Glucose in fruits
My son and his friend are testing the glucose in fresh fruit. They are using the test strips and pineapples are coming up low in glucose (175 mg/dl on average). I'm worried they are doing something wrong because I thought that would be very high. The strawberries were high (750 mg/do) and watermelon was in the middle (375 mg/do). Do their results sound correct?

Hi,
From what I found online, these results do not sound correct. You were correct in stating that pineapple should be the highest, not the lowest in glucose.

Hello Djcasano,
Did your son and his friend set up the appropriate controls stated in the project? The dilution series of glucose powder and water will let you know if the test strips are working appropriately. The positive controls are set up so you know the exact concentration, and the negative control is just water so it should show "no signal".
Here is the link to the procedure: https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... #procedure
Please take a look at the heading titled: Making the Positive and Negative Controls.
Please let us know if you have any other questions. Hope this helps!
