Why is an orange used to model or simulate a human body in the Death of an Orange experiment?

Hi jamarando,
I'm not really sure, to be honest, but my guess is - it's organic, mostly water, has a protective barrier, cheap and accessible. Most of these will affect heat transfer in a similar fashion to human body.
