experiment on omentum

I need help expanding how saturedfat affect the human body
I am trying to find an experiment to show how transfats affect the omentum in the human body which cause health issues.

I'm not aware of any studies looking at the mass / volume of fat in the omentum and health disorders. I think you may want to look at the paniculus, rather than the omentum. There are issues with cholesterol deposits in the peritoneal vasculature, but you won't find studies looking at a direct linkage with diet. And these would take many years to perform. Not really helpful for a science fair project.

The greater omentum is a large fold of peritoneum that hangs down from the stomach, and extends from the stomach to the transverse colon.

The lesser omentum is the double layer of peritoneum that extends from the liver to the lesser curvature of the stomach and the start of the duodenum.

While there is a general increase in the amount of fat in the omentum as the human body gets progressively obese, different individuals carry their weight with different distributions (apple shaped, pear shaped).

When one measures body fat, there are a number of bleep to do this. Typically, one is looking at the BMI (Body Mass Index.) This can be done by weighing a body underwater, a skinfold test, or Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (a DEXA scan).

A Wikipedia reference to Saturated Fats is below:

Read as much as you can regarding saturated and trans fats and see if you can think of a research question to ask that can be tested by an experiment in a reasonable time frame (days, not years.)

Google, Ask.com, and Answers.com will be other good sources for research.

When you come up with a research question, please post back and we can give you some suggestions to help refine your project.
