Science Project Questions

Post by deleted-680840 »

I'm working on developing a research project with my 9th grade GT student and hope someone with microbiology expertise can offer some advice. In forensic sciences, a common wavelength to use in searching for physical evidence is 455nm or somewhere in the blue range. We are examining whether other materials commonly found in nature -- specifically fungi and / or bacteria -- will also fluoresce in the blue range (we have research on UV).

Since we are limited on ability to test our own soil or water samples to see what's in them if they glow, I'd like to be able to request specific samples of known fluorescing microbes that may be commonly found in natural environments and on common surfaces.

Any and all suggestions will be extremely helpful.

Thank you.
