Hi,

An analysis of the copper content of brass may be feasible with some basic lab equipment and guidance from someone with chemistry lab experience. One procedure for analyzing copper in brass is described here:

http://www.rsc.org/learn-chemistry/reso ... MP00000614

In this procedure, brass is dissolved in nitric acid. As pointed out in the link, nitric acid is corrosive and should be handled in a fume hood. Someone experienced in working with strong acids should supervise making this solution. The rest of the procedure should be manageable by a careful student.

I can't comment on the suitability of this project for your IA because I don't know the requirements.

I hope this helps. Please post again if you have more questions.
