Harbor Porpoise Movement

Post by KeeleyM »

I picked a science project under Ocena Sciences from Science Buddies about Harbor Porpoise Movement and Migration. I have collected all my data, and am having trouble creating my maps off of the Map Generator at the Woods Hole Science Center website at: http://stellwagen.er.usgs.gov/mapit

I entered all of my coordinates and none of my points will show. If anyone has a solution or can tell me another good website with a map generator, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Keeley M,

GoogleEarth is a free program that lets you mark locations on a map, which you could then print out or take a screenshot of. However, I'm wondering why you can't get that map generator to work; it seems to work just fine for me. What latitudes and longitudes are you attempting to plot?

Hi Keeley,

Sometimes using a different web browser can help resolve probelms with not seeing parts of graphics. I used the browser Firefox (version 1.5) to view their sample coordinates and that worked. Also the platform can make a difference, whether you are using a PC or a Mac. I used to have a Mac computer and often found that webistes would look funny or wouldn't work quite right.
Most software people refer to these anolmalies in how the programs works as bugs and havea way for tracking and fixing them to improve tehri website. The people that wrote the Map Generator program have an email you can contact to report the bug if you find you cannot get it to work. It is listed here under the panel to the left , follow the link marked BUGS

Best of luck,

Sorry I think the bug reporting link I posted was wrong and refered to the original software that was adapted for the web version. Instead, you could try the emil listed at the bottom of the web form to see if they will help you.
