I have a student doing a science project on dissolving Skittles candy in various liquids to see which dissolves the fastest. Would this be chemistry? Materials science? Or any other suggestions on categories?

Your student is testing out different solvents and seeing how the larger molecules get broken up into smaller ones. That would be under Chemistry
