Altitude effects on fetal/child brain

Post by deleted-802453 »

Hi. I'm trying to find information on how spending time at a high elevation affects the developing brain (like a young child or even a fetus). I read an article that said there are more developmental delays in kids who live at high elevations, but that could be due to more poverty in those areas. I'm thinking about somewhere like Colorado in the United States where poverty is less and there are good hospitals. How much less oxygen is available to people at 6000/7000/8000/9000 feet and is it likely that spending time at these elevations is bad during pregnancy or childhood?

This sounds like a very good research question. Your next step would be to find some more peer reviewed articles, and maybe do a study yourself!
