Help with DNA Fingerprint Simulator - TACG Restriction Mapping Biotool

Post by deleted-811619 »

My daughter wants to do something with the project "What makes a DNA FIngerprint Unique" but we are not able to get the TACG Restriction Mapping webpage at the UMass Biotools site to work. When we click "submit sequence" we just get a blank page with nothing on it. Does anyone have any tips or advice for how to get that site to work or a new site that will work? We really want to do something with DNA Fingerprinting.

Hello and welcome!

Here is the site:
http://biotools.umassmed.edu/tacg4/

I'm sorry you and your daughter are having trouble with the website! A few ideas for you:
- Have you tried completely restarting the online "experiment"?
Especially with DNA fingerprinting online, it is very easy to slip and miss a key when inputting the sequence or simply accidentally missing a step. This sort of thing is very common with such explorations, so I'd advise starting fresh and making sure you follow the instructions as carefully as possible.

- Is your computer's flash player enabled?
In order for this site to work, your computer's flash player will need to be enabled so that the software can run correctly, and if it is turned off, this may be the underlying issue. Perhaps you'll need to install, or even update your flash player, which is another common setback that's experienced with computer programs such as the UMass Bio tool.

Here's a link that will walk you through how to check to see if your flash player is enabled :)

Let me know if you guys are able to make this work!

Stay nerdy and good luck!
