Cholesterol Reduction-URGENT

Post by deleted-816758 »

For my science fair project, I want to create an effective mixture of 2 or 3 natural cholesterol lowering remedies (e.g. pomegranate juice, grapefruit juice, herbal extracts) that can serve as a statin alternative. The issue is I don’t know a way to measure or clearly observe a reduction in cholesterol levels without taking blood samples from living organisms.

Some possibilities I was thinking of include:
A) using frozen pig blood (I don’t know how this would work in terms of chemically reacting with the remedies)
B) using lard or egg yolk (measuring the cholesterol with Liebermann-Burchard test which I tried researching about but is very confusing so it would be great if someone could explain it to me)
C) using pure cholesterol powder (I don’t know how this would work either)

Help would be very much appreciated :D

The egg or pure cholesterol dissolved in certain chemicals would work. The Liebermann-Burchard test would certainly work, but it requires access to some dangerous chemicals and expensive lab equipment that measures changes in color in solutions (spectrophotometer). See these links for further details.
