i am worried i dont want to get electrocuted, please help ASAP

hi im doing a project on how does a glow stick glow and it was dealing with using digital multimeter, photo resistor, and alligator clip lead. I was wondering is it dangerous because i dont want to get electrocuted. i also have another question what type of photoresistor do i need? i went to the store and they said there are different and i need to find the right voltage?

bieshtah123 - I don't know exactly what your experiment looks like but it sounds like you might be trying to measure light output from a glow stick using a photo resistor, battery and possibly a resistor. There is no concern of electric shock assuming you are using a low voltage battery such as a 9 volt cell. Good luck.

is it safe if im using photoresistor 90mw, 150 volt Resistance of 16k ohm at max light and 500k ohm in the dark. This information came from the website i ordered from https://www.homesciencetools.com/produc ... ion-anchor. and thank you for anwsering my first question!

bieshtah123 - Thanks for providing info on the photo resistor. If your setup is not using a high voltage circuit, and a low voltage battery instead, there is no danger.

Hi bieshtah123,

As Rick said, the project you selected is not dangerous. To clarify a bit further, the photoresistor itself is not a source of electricity and is not dangerous. In general, a good rule of thumb is that any project powered by just a 9V battery or a few AA batteries (like most of our projects at Science Buddies) is not dangerous - they are "low voltage." Electricity from a wall outlet is dangerous and considered "high voltage." Consumer appliances (lamps, cell phone chargers, computers, etc) have insulation to protect you from this electricity, but you generally should not try to use it for a science project.
