Is "how to make chicken rubber bone" a good topic?

Post by oss »

I wanna do a project on using vinegar to make chicken bone become rubber bone. But I don't know if this project has a "point" or not.
If not, please give me a recommendation for a good topic for Life Science.

I also really interesting on doing sth involve in Left and Right Brain things. But I dont know what to do specificly.
Please help me as quick as you can because I'm supposed to decide on the topic by Monday (Feb 12)
So, thanks for your time.
And looking forward to your answer.

Oss,
When calcium carbonate (in the bone) interacts with acetic acid (vinegar) a chemical reaction occurs that produces carbon dioxide and makes the bone soft and pliable. This is a fun trick to try, but alone, would not make for a great science fair project. You would need to think of some specific question(s) to ask, make a hypothesis to test, and think about how to test the hypothesis in a rigorous way. Perhaps trying different sizes or kinds of bones and seeing if they get bendy (but you'd want a good test for determining bendiness). I'm not really seeing a great project here - but there may be. I'd encourage you to think through this some more.

You may need to do some more sluething with respect to projects. I would encourage you to check out some of the resources on the Science Buddies web site including the "Topic Selection Wizard" or "Science Project Ideas". Also when you first click on the "Ask an Expert" forum you will see a series of options regarding finding and narrowing down topics of interest to you. Look through these excellent resources and see if you can get a more solid idea on a project or two or three. It really is important that you pick a project that is interesting to you and feasible with your time frame, resources, level of experience, etc. When you have some more specifics in mind, feel free to post back to get advice on how to proceed.

I'm still struggling to find a topic. I already tried the "Science Fair Project Ideas" and other features on Science Buddies. But it doesn't help much.
Anyway, Thanks a lotfor your detailed reply. :P

oss,

Here is a website that has lots of project ideas relating to the brain:
http://www.juliantrubin.com/psychologyprojects.html

You might like to look through the different sections and see if something in there catches your interest. We can help you refine your topic and procedures once you have chosen a question.

Hope this helps!
