Question for - Finding the Center of the Milky Way Galaxy Using Globular Star Clusters

Post by Jacksonl69 »

My daughter wants to do this project for her Space Exploration class. The data set seems quite old. Is there a newer one she can use?

Hello JacksonI69,
Finding the center of the Milky Way galaxy using globular star clusters is a great project! Most of the data on globular star clusters comes from a 2011 study, but the dataset provided in the description of the project (http://www.messier.seds.org/xtra/supp/mw_gc.html) was last updated in 2018 to add two new clusters. These appear to be the most recently discovered clusters in the Milky Way, as new research has primarily focused on more distant parts of space. Because of this, I think that using that dataset should work fine. Have fun with this project!
