Is color 2d?

Post by StarlingRaindeer »

So, I ask a question to my friends all the time and I was wondering if my answer to my own question works. My question is: "What is your favorite undiscovered color?" Now, when I make silly questions like that I always make sure that I have an answer so, I made up a color, Magurmple. So, the way I explain this color is to imagine all the colors on a piece of paper, Magurmple is ABOVE yellow. Like, above the paper. Does that make sense? Am I at least a little right in trying to imagine color as a sheet of paper?

Hello.

This is a really interesting concept. While color is often shown in two dimensions, like on a color wheel or chart, it actually exists in a three-dimensional space, with hue, saturation, and brightness. Your idea of imagining a new color like “Magurmple” as being above yellow on a sheet of paper is a clever metaphor for thinking beyond our normal visual limits. In fact, it’s a bit like imagining a color in a higher dimension, something we can’t see, but can conceptually explore, much like colors outside human vision such as ultraviolet. So yes, you’re more than a little right—you’re thinking like a color philosopher!
