- Project Question: my experiment is comparing the thermal insulating properties of wool, cotton and felt. i want to know what can i write for the conclusion and hypothesis???Plz help!!:(:(:(

Plz help asap
im doing a project on the thermal insulation of denim, cotton and felt when they are wet and when they are dry. i wrapped the 3 fabrics around 3 identical ordinary food cans i poured in boiling water and took their initial temperature i waited 10 mins and took their final temperatures also i repeated all of this with the fabrics wet.I found out that wet fabrics lose their heat faster than dry fabrics.I found out that felt was the best insulator. and i need help writing a conclusion and hypothesis also wat is d variable????...... plz help!

Hi sunny2k8:
I responded to your same post in the Grades 6-8: Physical Science forum. Please check out the information at that location.

Hi,
I would suggest taking a look at the Science Fair Project Guide for questions about writing your info up, but here's some help. For your conclusion, you would write exactly what you wrote here. The conclusion is where you want to state your final results and ask any questions that you had posed earlier in your project, for example why did wet materials lose their heat faster? And what properties of felt would make it the best insulator?
Your hypothesis should have been written before you started your experiment...this is where you say what you think will happen, based on prior knowledge of your topic. Did you think felt would be the best insulator? And did you think dry or wet materials would work the best? Depending on your science level you can use the "if...then" format for your hypothesis or make your own.
Then the variable is what you are changing, or what you have control over. Your independent variable is what you control, such as the material surrounding the water, the heat of the water, and the state of the material. Your dependent variable is what will change based on the independent variables.
Good luck!
