I am interested in doing a project based on some information my Dad told me. He said that you can tell if a person is telling the truth, or being creative by the way they move their eyes. It has something to do with the fact side and creative side of the brain. When a person is asked a question that they must rely on memory they move their eyes down to the side, if they are making a story up as they go, they tend to move their eyes up to the side. I think this would be an awsome science fair project, but don't know where to look for information or what it is all about. My Dad says it is used by police and other people that interview people.

- Project Question: My Dad told me where you could tell if a person was using the logic side of the brain (right or left side of the brain) or the creative side if they were asked a question. He said you could tell by the way the persons eyes were. If the person looked up while thinking of an answer, this meant they were searching for a creative answer. If the eyes looked down, it meant they were searching for the answer from the memory. I think this would be a great project. Can you tell me about it?

I've heard of that too, it sounds really interesting...I'm not sure if there's a scientific reason behind it but it would certainly be a cool thing to research. Here's a website that might help-

Interesting project idea. I have heard the same ideas about eye direction and lying. There is a fair amount written about this on the web. This site mentioned by staryl13 has some good info

You can find more by using a search engine like google.com to search for terms like "visual assessing cues" "eyes" and "lies"
Be careful - much of the information on this topic on the web is "non-scientific" (not supported by scientific experiments). These ideas came out of something called "neuro linguistic programming" (NLP) which is a form of psychotherapy seen by some as an effective method and by others as pure rubbish. The actual research is pretty difficult to find beneath all the casual discussion. It turns out that a fair amount of published research was done on this topic in the 1980's. See page 4-5 of this pdf file (labeled as pages 271-2 in the file)

You'll see that there are quite a few contradictory studies about the connection between thoughts and eye direction.
