Hi my name is Mark and I am in the 5th grade.......I would like to know which gets hotter with in certain time sand or soil?

The answer to your question depends on several factors -the type of soil qnd how wet the soil is.

An easy way to test how fast sand and soil heat up under the same conditions would be to -
Fill one cake pan or baking pan with sand and one pan with soil.
Place a thermometer in each one, place them in a sunny loczation and record the temperature every 30 minutes.

Once you determine which one heats up fastest you can start setting up a series of treatments (water added to both sand and soil, cover each pan with aluminum foil, cover each pan with ground up charcoal)
