Hi Rachel!
Sounds like a cool project. Do you have any specific questions/issues you need help with? Once we are able to pinpoint your question, we will be better answer your question. Look forward to hearing more about your project!

Hi Rachel,
This project is going to be a challenge, but you should be able to do a basic experiment and get some results to turn in your project on time. You won't be able to use the kids at school because you won't be there before your experiment is due. I don't know what your hypothesis is, but you need an experiment that will test the hypothesis and give you some data that you can use to fill in your results section and make conclusions about. I would imagine that you will need a way to play music for your test subjects, a test for them to take, and at least two groups of test subjects. For a science project, it's very important for you to actually do the experiment and get some results that you can measure. Do plan to do your experiment before the week-end and then reserve the entire week-end to write up the results and finish your board. You will need the time to make a very impressive presentation.
Please write back and let us know the details of an experiment you think you can complete with the resources available to you this week. We'll be able to confirm that you are on the right track to do a controlled experiment.

Re: I need help with my proj
Oh Great! I remember trying out classical music to help my studies.
First I suggest you use not only classical music in cognitive tests, but also rock, rap, jazz, mellow, and all the different kinds of varieties. You want to be able to test out the feedback of our brain to music and what distinguishes classical from the rest for a much more wider context.
Personally, I take AP Music Theory so I know have some distinctions to how our brains perceive different noises. My teacher has told us that the brain also wants to hear what it desires. Such that if we are left in the middle of an unfinished song, our brains want to hear the end result and thus feel anxious and nervous.
It might be interesting to try testing a full classical music run with the test in progress, then a test where the classical music is cut off in the middle, and a control experiment of no music. You might also want to try testing it with the different musical genres mentioned above.
Suggestions for music:
Ave Maria-Classical
The 9th Symphony-Classical
Charlie Parker-Jazz
In the Mood-Jazz
Titanic Soundtrack-Mellow
Kanye West/Mos Def-Rap
Coldplay-Rock
