Hi,

This is an intriguing question!!! It should really interesting to do a project on it.

My best suggestion is to start with a search of http://www.google.com for the search term “honesty prevalence” or similar terms. You will get lots and lots of hits. Be sure to search down many pages into the results, as sometimes the very best answers lie on page 6 or higher.

One of the many interesting aspects to this question is how do you know when someone is telling the truth and when they are lying. Why do people lie? How do you promote honesty? These are very important questions that almost everyone is interested in.

I wish you evry success with this line of inquiry. If you can do a great job of it, my guess is that there will be a very long line of people interested in your results (I will be in the line too!).

Good luck!

I'm posting a link to the Science Buddies project I think you may be referencing so that it is here with the thread:

Hi,

You might also use the search "Why do people lie?" There appear to be many articles with that title.

You'll need to think about these reports, because many are popular consolidations of research. But you might find some studies referenced that you'll want to study yourself.

This project is especially interesting because it relates in part to how we "construct" our selves, our ideals, and the complicated situations that make judgment difficult. Are there ever situations when lying is a good idea? Are there situations where lying is illegal? Is "lying" just a matter of answering questions untruthfully? Is it okay to lie to avoid hurting someone's feelings? These are just some of the many questions you might encounter.
