Using sound to identify objects: Echolocation

Post by deleted-34895 »

Hi,

I want to work on "echolocation" for my science project. My aim is to study if sound waves can be bounced off of objects thus giving information about the distance and size of the object from a particular point. If this is possible, I think it will help the blind people in navigation. I need help in designing an experiment based on this principle for my high school science project. How can I design such an experiment without using expensive instruments and lab equipment?

Thank you.

Hi,

You might find this Science Buddies discussion thread to be of interest:

You might be interested in this Popular electronics article:

This site might be useful, although it requires registration:

This USGS site may be of interest:

I hope this helps. I did not find a sonar Science fair project writeup on echolocation, sonar or radar.
