Hi
I read the procedure on how to prepare alum from scrap aluminum here:-
http://employees.oneonta.edu/kotzjc/LAB/Alum_Expt.pdf
One of the final step includes using a vacuum filtration to separate alum from the solution......
The problem is that we don't have a vacuum filtration unit in our lab........
My question is - is it OK to let the solution evaporate than to use a vacuum filtration unit?

Hi,
This looks like a great project!
Yes, it is OK to air dry if you don't have the vacuum filtration device, but it will take longer to dry your sample so you can weigh it and quantitate your results. Why don't you try filtering your sample through a funnel-style coffee filter, let it drip through, and then set up a small fan to help dry the sample? Adding a little heat would help, but you would want to avoid burning the paper, otherwise you would lose your sample.
