Waterproof Mascara

Post by alanaac »

I pretty much already have my topic picked out: "Which waterproof mascara lasts the longest underwater?"
Now all I need is kind of... And idea of how to do it all.
I have my procedures, my hypothesis, my materials; just my research paper, my application, conclusions, data charts, abstract, and all I just don't know how to do. And my whole project is due this monday, which is in six days.

I really do need help with this.
<3
Like, what should I look up for my research paper and all and how exactly do I do my charts and then the rest I think I can pretty much figure out for myself.

Hi,

Science Buddies has an excellent site on how to write your research paper, here: http://sciencebuddies.com/science-fair- ... port.shtml

As for charts, can you tell us what data you collected and how you collected it? I can imagine a graph with mascara type on the x-axis and time lasted underwater on the y; you could put multiple dots on to represent each data point, or you could graph the average, plus maybe some measurements of the variation depending on what grade you're in.

So, tell us a little bit more about your project and we'll help you proceed :).

Well, first, my experiment is to get 5 brands of waterproof mascara, fill up a bowl with water and keep the wad in the for 45 seconds and swish the wad around the bowl three times. Then I would get a paper towel and rub the mascara wad on the paper towel and see how much mascara actually, you know, stays on the wad. I'm not sure how else to do it. I'm pretty confused about which way is the best way to do it, but I guess I'll figure it out. (I think this is about the time I should say I didn't exactly do my experiment yet.)
(Btw, thanks for the link for my research paper; I got it done now.)
Now all I really actually need help in is just how to do my charts, like a general idea of how to do it after I finish my project.

Thank you sooooo much for your help.(:

Hi there,

It sounds like you had a great project idea and were able to carry it out! :)

The Science Buddies website has some information to help you put your data into charts or graphs: https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... ysis.shtml

This should get you started, but if you have any further questions please post again. The way you have described your data, it sounds like a bar graph may be your best choice. Each bar would represent how much mascara was left on the wad. The one with the highest bar would be the best waterproof mascara.

Hope that helps.

Hi there,

This is not a standard project, so I do not know of a website giving step-by-step instructions. However, much of the best science is done with new ideas and new methods!

Science Buddies has a great set of resources to help you get started with your project and to make sure you follow the scientific method:
https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... ?From=body

I hope that helps you get going with your new project.

Alright thank you i'll be sure to use that. Also for a procedure it is alright if i can use the one above that the other user provided? Plus just as an idea, based on this project idea what are some of the things i can research?
thanks.

Hello
Yes you can replicate the science project that's normal replication helps validate science projects. As for your research theres lots of things you can research. For example you can research the history of mascara, the materials mascara is composed of,the manufacturing process, safety, the difference between waterproof mascara and non waterproof mascara.

Here is a link to help you out:

Good Luck!
