Hi, im hoping you can help me. I am doing a grade 7 project on the effects of smoking to your lungs. I have already chosen my experiment. You can preview my experiment at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_poJdO0Y5IM
Now, i must have variables(differrent results, they can be either controlled or not controlled variables) in my experiment. What could the variables be? I can do something to the water bottle that could represent something that is in your lungs. ???????????
I also would love to know where i could find some backround info. about how it affects the lungs.
If you also know some way i could preview someone else who has done this project so i could get an idea of what it looks like, that would be wonderful.
The below states some of the things i need to do for this projects, any ideas please comment.
. Problem/question
.info. 3-5 paragraphs
. hypothesis for experiment
. materials
. procedure
. observations and graph. How should i make my graph???
. disscusion/analysis
. conclusion
I have approx. 3 weeks before it is due. Please comment, thanking you in advance!

Re: Science fair project on smoking- PLEASE HELP!
Hello,
You can find some good background information from the American Lung Association and American Cancer Society – see the following links:
http://www.cancer.org/docroot/PED/conte ... moking.asp
http://www.lungusa.org/stop-smoking/
Some ideas/considerations for your experiment:
1. You will need to come up with a hypothesis prior to designing your experiment.
2. As for experimental design, you will want an untreated control along with your test samples. As for variables, you may want to try different brands of cigarettes that have differing levels of tar or perhaps light cigarettes versus regular cigarettes.
3. How do you plan to score your results? This is important because this is the data you will be collecting for graphing purposes.
Think about some of these things and we can go from there.
Hope this helps,
Mary
