problems with experiment

Hello,
I was reading my experiment, "I love ice cream, but it doesn't love me," and i found lactose-free milk is supposed to be high in glucose after testing according to the site where you got the experiment from. when i tested it, before and after adding the lactose drops, the reaction i got was negative. it was that way for the other milk too, the one with lactose. did i do my experiment wrong? why is is doing this? please help me.

p.s. i used urinanalyisis strips but the kind for ketone care they detect glucose. is that a problem because thats the one we could find and what the pharmacist recommended.

Hi,

The test strips you are using may or may not be testing for glucose. My guess is they are not, but you should be able to tell by reading the leaflet that was packaged with the strips. A ketone test will not detect glucose. Here is a site describing three different test strips, some of which test for glucose and some which do not:

Notice that it suggests a particular brand of glucose test strips (Bayer Diastix) which should work - Science Buddies would not be able to vouch for other brands or types of strips as they haven’t been tried by us.
