Surface Tension

Post by deleted-84451 »

My project has to do with measuring the surface tension of water.I used a scale and added weight to one end to get the needle out of the water on the otherside.I have everything in grams right now, but I want it in surface tension.Do you know the formula for this or anything that might help?

I appreciate any advice :D

Hi,

Here is a Science Buddies Project writeup on surface tension. It includes a description of how to convert the force required to pull a pin free from water to surface tension (see the experiment procedure at the end of the writeup). It also has resource links worth reading for further background information in the Bibliography section.

For further background information here is an excellent wikipedia article on surface tension:

Good luck with the project!!
