Description:
During cell division, it is possible for a daughter cell to gain a mutation. If so, it is likely that it undergoes apoptosis or is killed by the immune system. If neither of these happens, the mutation is fixed in that cell line. There is a chance that a cell accumulates enough mutations, over many cell divisions, that it becomes cancerous.
