Hi mnhashmi,

I’m assuming that you are working on the project described here:

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... og#summary

The materials list for this project includes a lip balm kit available here:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TG ... e-20&psc=1

I don't know if the shea butter in the kit is refined but the kit ingredients should work well.

Refined shea butter might be more like a thick lotion than a solid but you can probably make a lip balm with it. The following articles note some of the differences between refined and unrefined shea butter:

https://bettersheabutter.com/raw-shea-b ... ea-butter/

https://www.livestrong.com/article/2764 ... ea-butter/

I hope this helps. Please ask again if you have more questions.

Hi,

I also have a question about the lip balm containers. Can I just use a lot of tubes for the lip balm instead of jars and tubes?

Hi mnhashmi,

The lip balm samples in jars are intended for the customer preference test described in the project procedure. To keep the lip balms free of contaminants your volunteers should use a clean cotton swap or toothpick to take balm samples from the jars.

If you are not including the customer preference test in your project, there's no need to use the jars.

I hope this helps. Please ask again if you have more questions.

Hi mnhashmi,

The aim of your project is to evaluate differences that result from changing the lip balm recipe. You question should address this objective. You might want to take a look at the questions at the end of the project background section. These may help you write your question.

Science Buddies has some great guidance on creating a research question and hypothesis. This information can be accessed here:

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... t-question

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... hypothesis

I hope this helps. Please ask again if you have more questions.
