DNA fingerprinting with respect to electrophoresis

Post by deleted-941423 »

Hi,
I saw a science experiment idea where you could use an electrophoresis chamber to check the DNA between your family members. So how do i do this?
And also if i am creating a gel electrophoresis chamber is it okay if i use a square box instead of a rectangular one?
thank you

Hi,

Do you have more information on the materials and procedures for this science project? We can help guide you with more specific details.

Extracting human DNA requires sterile collection, extraction, and PCR amplification before observing it on a gel. This link explains why these experiments require access to a research laboratory.

Here is a gel electrophoresis project on science buddies that shows you how to make one at home. This project shows you how to separate the components of different color dyes on a gel.
You could use a square box, as long as it fits the number of samples that you are processing.
