Soil Microbial Fuel Cell Wire Type

Post by shasban932460 »

Hello ,
My name is Shanmukha and for my eighth grade science fair project I am planning to do a Soil Microbial Fuel Cell . My microbial fuel cell is single chambered and I am planning to use carbon graphite felt for it . For the wire type , which one would make the fuel cell produce electricity efficiently ? Titanium or Copper wires ? Also could I just use wire glue to connect the wire onto the graphite carbon felt or should I strictly use epoxy .
Here is the link for the wire glue : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000Z9H7ZW?re ... 5K9VWAMA41

Hi there,

While titanium wires will most likely not be subject to any sort of rust/corrosion, I would recommend using copper wires because they will be much easier to source and work with. Copper wires are also great at conducting electricity. The wire glue that you linked will also work much better with copper wires. I don't think epoxy would work super well with fostering an electrical connection, so I'd recommend using wire glue then taping with electrical tape if possible, but any insulator like painter's tape would work for the most part. Best of luck to you on your project.
