the theory that a person can be manipluated "subconsciously" through subliminal suggestions has been around for a while, although there is very mixed evidence showing effectiveness. There's quite a bit of information and many examples of subliminal suggestion on the web (google for "subliminal" and you'll hit thousands of sites). Be careful though, many of these sites are advertising for books or self help.
