Question concerning "How Much Fat is In Your Food" Experiment

Post by deleted-861262 »

Hello! I am in the process of completing this experiment (which is awesome by the way), and I just had a few questions. First of all, what are the independent and dependent variables? I'm assuming the dependent variable is the fat extracted but this is just a guess.

And also if you're not familiar with the procedure https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... #procedure, I was wondering what should be done if the acetone still hasn't evaporated from some of my jars after more than 24 hrs?

On a side note, I really wish a picture after the jars were left after 24 hours and were collected was included.

Hi there. This sounds like a fun experiment!

We would like for you to take a first attempt at identifying your variables.

Independent variables are those you will change to see if it affects the outcome of your experiment.

Dependent variables are those that you’re measuring to see if their outcome changes due to changes in your independent variables.

Controlled variables are those you will keep constant so they don’t change the outcome you of your experiment (ie, they don’t affect your dependent variable)

You can read more about variables here.
https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... /variables

You are correct on the dependent variable, as the fat extracted is what you are trying to measure, based on the different foods. What are your thoughts about the independent variables?

As far as the acetone goes, leave is standing for a few more hours and see if that makes a difference.

Write back with your thoughts on the independent variables. Good luck!
