Can AI diagnose breast cancer - Project

Post by Najat_08 »

I've run all the cells needed to run for the project but I'm unsure of how to analyze and understand the results? When you reach the end of the project, you are presented with a graph of the performance metrics of the neighbors in this project, but I'm not sure what the accuracy, precision, and recall represent.

I'm also unsure of what the decision boundary is showing me. It's a graph with several blue and orange point but I don't understand which represents malignant tumors and which represents benign tumors

Hi - Are you using the written project directions? You can find them here: https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... ast-cancer

The terms you asked about are all defined in the "Training the Model" section, so I would recommend going back through that information to see if that helps answer some of these questions.

Thank you so much! This is been of much help over the week but I am still confused about one thing. I'm not sure if I'm just missing or just haven't quite gotten it yet but I'm still not sure what color on the PCA graph represents what. So I wanted to ask if you knew which color represents benign tumors and which represents malignant tumors

Hi - Good question! The project directions need to be updated with some information to explain the use of colors.

Here is the info you need to interpret what you are seeing:

The color blue is Class 0, corresponding to the samples that are benign, and the color orange is Class 1, corresponding to the samples that are malignant.

The blue and orange background mean that if a new point is in blue, then the model will predict that the new point is a benign tumor. If a new point is in orange, the model will predict it is malignant.

If you see an orange point in the blue background, or a blue point in an orange background, the model has misclassified those points.

Welcome! I hope your project goes well. Was this for a school assignment or science fair?

Yes, It is for a science fair project! But I seem to have run into yet another issue.

-Is there a graph and table that you reccomend I use to present my findings or would they not be needed?
