Question about How Do Viruses React To Soap? activity
Question about How Do Viruses React To Soap? activity
1. In the activity, there is no scrubbing of the virus balls still the soap molecules react. I want to understand why does CDC insists on scrubbing while washing hands. If I dip my hands into a soapy water solution and just swirl the solution around (and not scrub) will the soap still take away the virus?
2. If I cover my hands with soap lather and not scrub anywhere and leave the…

My Science Fair Project
My Science Fair Project
Hello! I have a science fair project that I came up with. I need some help with growing the bacteria. So my project question is:
How does light affect methanotrophic culture?
Obviously, I need to grow the methanotrophs first. However, I am not sure how to do this because I need to incubate them in CH4 and isolate them.
Please help!!!

Invertebrate
Invertebrate
When I had an invertebrate animals topic, one of my students asked why did they name 'Sea Jellies' if they live in the ocean. Maybe anyone can help?
Re: Invertebrate
Hi!
That’s a very interesting question! It’s nice to hear that your students are so curious!
I did a bit of research and found a lot of information about sea jellies, but I didn’t find a clear answer to this question, although I did find some facts that might be helpful.
Sea jellies can also be…

Trouble Shooting Obstacle-avoiding robot
Trouble Shooting Obstacle-avoiding robot
Hi there,
I have assembled an obstacle avoiding robot using the circuit instructions from Science buddies, but what happens is that if I press on a lever, the opposite wheel does not move backward. only forward (the wheel on the same side of the lever stops). Could you tell me what is going on, as I haven't seen this kind of situation appear in the FAQ section on the page. Thank you very much.

What would this be classified as?
What would this be classified as?
For my science project this year, I was thinking about testing which starch from potatoes or arrowroot or tapioca would be the thickest of the three, as well as coming up with another experiment in addition to the previously mentioned experiment. (Will have to think on that later.)
However, to fill out my science topic selection worksheet (which is due on Tuesday; so I would prefer to receive an answer before then please),…

A Cool Way to Make Electricity: Solar Cell Power Output vs. Temperature
This project calls for a:

6 V, 150 mA solar cell with alligator clip leads, part #2221456
Yet, the link takes you to:

7.2 Volts 200mA Solar Panel with 20" Alligator Clip Leads (Jameco Part no.: 2221456)
Does it make a difference for this project? My guess is that more current would help for a better reading on the…

Echo underground
Echo underground
Hi
Does anyone know whether the same structure (say a concrete 50㎥ room) over ground, would have more intense echo had it been under ground?
If not what causes it?
And how severe is the difference?
thanks!
Re: Echo underground
I know this question is old, but I thought it was interesting.
The amount a sound echoes depends on how much the material absorbs sound. So if you were to have a solid metal box, it would probably echo the same above and below…
