Help! Procedure in Making SAP Using Orange and Avocado.
Help! Procedure in Making SAP Using Orange and Avocado.
Hi, I need help. I am trying to perform Ms. Kiara Nirghin's Google Science Fair Project of making an SAP using orange and avocado peels. As we try to follow the procedure, it has been said that in every 3 oranges you need 15ml of lemon and 100ml of distilled water and cook it for 45mins. and she was able to strain 80ml of liquid from the mixture. But, as we tried to follow her…

SimPandemic
SimPandemic
Hi, I just had a quick question about your SimPandemic tool. I know that isn't Life, Earth, or Social Sciences, but I didn't know where else to go. In the SimPandemic stimulator, does it automatically assume that getting infected and recovering means that you are immune? Thanks.

Aquarium ph and alkalinity
Aquarium ph and alkalinity
I just had my aquarium water tested. I have a pH of 8.4 but alkalinity at 0. Is this possible? Please explain.
Re: Aquarium ph and alkalinity
Hey hotpockets626,
I’m no expert with pH, but the pH scale includes alkalinity and acidity. This link might help. https://courses.lumenlearning.com/wmopen-nmbiology1/chapter/the-ph-scale/
I don’t think that it’s possible to have an alkalinity of zero, because that would be acidic. You…

We need help with a catchy title.
Re: Catchy Title for Science Fair
Hi!
Do you mind providing any further details about the project, such as her hypothesis or anything she discovered/researched while doing the project? This could help in coming up with a catchy title, thank you!

Why can't we harness thermal energy?
Why can't we harness thermal energy?
I was watching the show Darling in the Franxx and all the talk about "Magma Energy" made me question why we're not currently harnessing thermal energy on a large scale? (That I know of)
I've thought about it and why couldn't we drill a hole deep enough to where the temperatures are 200+ degrees and because heat rises, make a wind tunnel and install a type of wind turbine thus producing energy?

Vermicompost (Worm Poop)
Vermicompost (Worm Poop)
Hello whoever is reading this, I am a middle school student performing an experiment on worms, to see which conditions worms make the best quality compost. I typically spend 3 hours a day feeding my worms and recording observations, such as pH, % castings, and worms found in the sample taken out. I use pH test strips to measure the pH ( meant for soil), my eye to estimate castings %, and my ability to count to record how many worms there are.…

Question about X-inactivation in calico cats project
Question about X-inactivation in calico cats project
Hello! I'm a 12th grader that's working on the x-inactivation in calico cats project. I collected all my data, but I'm not sure how to analyze my data. I originally thought that using chi-squared would work, but I don't have expected values. Would the expected values be all equal since the x-inactivation should be evenly spread? Or does the usage of chi-squared not work?
Here is the…

Ecological Footprint Analysis project
Ecological Footprint Analysis project
Hi, Board Members!
I am new to this forum and I am a high school science and math teacher. I would love to have my Grade 12 Environment Science students take on the project 'Ecological Footprint Analysis' as their year-end project. My question: How could I steer the students towards starting such a project, especially as my school is primarily online and the students would not have recourse to labs and to take any…

Crime Scene Chemistry—The Cool Blue Light of Luminol
Hello! I don't really know if this is the right forum to post this (probably isn't) but I have a question regarding one of the experiments that were displayed on this page.
To be more specific, I mean this experiment (https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science-fair-projects/project-ideas/Chem_p078/chemistry/crime-scene-luminol-blood#summary). So my question regarding this project…
