Questions about rotating prism in Measuring Sugar Content of a Liquid with a Laser Pointer
Hello and thank you in advance.
I'm a teacher guiding a student with the project "Measuring Sugar Content of a Liquid with a Laser Pointer"

Category and data collection Question
Category and data collection Question
My daughter is applying glogerm to her hands and then washing her hands with different types of soap to see if one type is better at cleaning her hands than others.
What category would this be in for a science fair? Is it chemistry, medicine/health or consumer science or something else? She has to enter a category for registering.
Also after she applies the glogerm she will take a picture showing that her hands…

Simple drone won’t lift
Simple drone won’t lift
My daughter is doing the simple drone project from Popsicle sticks. We have followed all directions and verified multiple times everything was correct and the drone will not lift. Please help with some trouble shoot options other than checking wires because they’re all correct. We can also feel air under the propellers so I don’t think that’s the issue either and we’re running out of time.
Re: Simple drone won’t lift
Hi,
Just to clarify, you…

Seeing microplastics with a microscope
Seeing microplastics with a microscope
If my daughter uses a coffee filter to pour water through could the coffee filter be observed with a microscope to see microplastics?
She wants to get samples from four lakes in our area and from the ocean.
Re: Seeing microplastics with a microscope
Hello,
Yes, any microplastics that you can't see with the naked eye should be visible with a compound microscope. I would recommend doing some research first on what…

Astrophotography
Astrophotography
Hi, I have a project involving exoplanets and exomoons and I need to be able to plot a light curve of stars for this project - what camera would be sufficient for this - could I hold an iPhone, insta360 camera or GoPro up to the eyepiece for the datapoints or would I need something stronger?
Thank You,
GoelV
Re: Astrophotography
Hi,
This is not my area of expertise but I checked with someone who has more experience with astronomy. They said "Generally,…

Help on measuring yeast culture growth on an agar plate/petri dish
Help on measuring yeast culture growth on an agar plate/petri dish
Hello! I'm currently working on my AP Research experiment. I'm exploring how sudden heat shock at different temperatures will affect Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast agar plate growth.
I'm still uncertain on the data collection/analysis collection of the project. For one, how would I be able to quantify the growth of the yeast without using a hemocytometer? It…

Do elements in Group 4a (14) Have a Charge of 4+ or 4-
I am studying Chemistry, and can't find anything about Group 4a (14) of the periodic table. Do the ions in this group have a charge of positive 4 or negative 4. One source said that they have either, and I would like to know how you differentiate.

Forensic Science: Building Your Own Tool for Identifying DNA
Forensic Science: Building Your Own Tool for Identifying DNA
Hi.
What other things could I test this project with, besides food coloring?
Re: Forensic Science: Building Your Own Tool for Identifying DNA
Hi,
I think for this project it might be interesting to compare different brands of food coloring and see how the bands are the same and/or different following electrophoresis. You could look at band size or migration, or both.…

Light tracking bristlebot
Light tracking bristlebot
My 9 year old daughter is trying to build a light tracking bristlebot. What kind of mosfet does she need? I see the kit has an n channel mosfet, but it does not give further details. When I was trying to buy a mosfet they seem to come in a variety of amps and volts, but that information is not on the Science Buddies directions for this project.
Thank you
Hope

The exact part used in our kit is also…

Calorimetry Experiment Gr-10
Calorimetry Experiment Gr-10
We did a Chem lab involving Calorimetry with a aluminum bar.
Once everyone did the experiment twice and got our results. We were then required to complete the rest of the Q's at home with an average value.
My question is our experimental value is lower than the theoretical value. And we are then asked to calculate the experiment percentage error. Aluminum specific heat we are given is 0.897 J/g C and our experimental is 0.705 J/ g C…
