Using a Laser Pointer to Measure the Data Track Spacing on C Using a Laser Pointer to Measure the Data Track Spacing on C I am doing this project as my Science Fair project and I have setup the project, and took a picture of the laser will the its rays refracting from the cd and dvd. I need help putting my numbers into the equation, and solving it so i can get my data. If you want, I can show you the pictures. I need help as soon as possible please. Using a Laser Pointer to Measure the Data Track Spacing on C Using a Laser Pointer to Measure the Data Track Spacing on C is it necessary to get 4 diffracted beams (excluding incident beam) as shown in the picture on this site??? Re: Using a Laser Pointer to Measure the Data Track Spacing on C Hi Maulin, Welcome to the forum! Calculating the spacing from multiple diffracted beams is like measuring anything multiple times -- it reduces the error in your final result. This error… Read more

Using a Laser Pointer to Measure the Data Track Spacing on C Using a Laser Pointer to Measure the Data Track Spacing on C I am doing this project for my boards and the project report is due in a week. Could anyone please post the readings they have obtained in this experiment. A copy of their report could be sent to me my e-mail [e-mail deleted by moderator] PLEASE HELP Re: Using a Laser Pointer to Measure the Data Track Spacing on C Hi, Please do not post your personal information on the… Read more

Using a Laser Pointer to Measure the Data Track Spacing on C Using a Laser Pointer to Measure the Data Track Spacing on C :? My Science project is due this Monday and I am confused on a few parts. Whenever i shine the beam down i get the same angles for the CD and then i get the same for the DVD every trial. I always only get two reflecting though and I'm not sure which they are. Is there any variation i can do on the project without the math problem beacause that's the only way i might be… Read more

Using a Laser Pointer to Measure the Data Track Spacing on C Using a Laser Pointer to Measure the Data Track Spacing on C Hi guys: So I decided to do this project for my science project. Hooray. After conducting one of my tests the other night and measuring the angles, I became very confused. How can I tell which beam is the incident beam, and which is the reflected beam? Is the incident beam the closest one to the original laser beam, or what? I understand that m=+1 and m=-2 are… Read more

Using a laser pointer to measure data track spacing on CDs. Using a laser pointer to measure data track spacing on CDs. I am mentoring a 5th grade student and he selected this project from this sight. We are having a lot of trouble getting the different diffraction lines to show up. Does anyone have any tips on how to make it more precise? We have tried it with DVD's, CD's, and video games. At most we will get one or two lines, the picture shows like 5. Any ideas? Using a Laser Pointer to Measure the Data Track Spacing on CD Using a Laser Pointer to Measure the Data Track Spacing on CD Hi, I am conduction this experiment but i dont understand how you do the calculations... first of all the angles, how do you measure them? I mean like it says you have to measure "from the normal (90° on the protractor)".. so this mean in the example for m+1 angle u can use 48 or 138 likewise? I got 1379.717 for m+1 where m+1 = 53, teta_i = 20, is it right? and secondly,… Read more

Using a Laser Pointer to Measure the Data Track Spacing Using a Laser Pointer to Measure the Data Track Spacing [Science Buddies note: Posting this on behalf of Ron.] Project: https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science-fair-projects/project_ideas/Phys_p011.shtml My daughter and I have done this experiment and we have two questions: 1. We were able to duplicate the diagram shown in Step2 “making the measurements” exactly as shown and were able to get measurements for the angles at m = +1, m… Read more

Using a Laser Pointer to Measure the Data Track Spacing on CD Using a Laser Pointer to Measure the Data Track Spacing on CD I have a couple of questions. Do the CD and DVD need to have data on them to find the spacing with the laser? When you calculate each angle of the diffracted beams, do you find the angle by measuring from the perpendicular line to the diffracted beam? Re: Using a Laser Pointer to Measure the Data Track Spacing Hi, I have split your post off from the old topic so that… Read more
