Researchers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute have shown that advanced pancreatic cancers in mice are dependent on continued oncogenic Kras expression for tumor maintenance. They also report that KRAS "rewires" key metabolic pathways to fuel the cancer cells, which suggest that these altered pathways might be potential targets for future drugs. Read more

The least expensive way for the Western US to reduce greenhouse gas emissions enough to help prevent the worst consequences of global warming is to replace coal with renewable and other sources of energy that may include nuclear power, according to a new study by UC Berkeley researchers. Patients with head and neck cancer who are treated with an advanced form of radiation therapy may experience fewer side effects and be less likely to die from their disease than patients who receive standard radiation therapy.
