Aspirin, along with the use of stockings and a foot pump, are safe and effective therapies in preventing deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism in most joint replacement patients, according to research presented today at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons 2012 Annual Meeting. Patients at high risk for DVT made require the use of anticoagulation therapies.

While the Affordable Care Act will expand health insurance coverage for low-income persons through Medicaid and state health-insurance exchanges, including much-needed care for 1.8 million uninsured veterans in the US, the new insurance coverage option also may have a number of unintended negative effects on health care for veterans, said Kenneth W.
